Initial Planning & Design Concept
When deciding on the best heating method for your luxury swimming pool, our design team will consider factors such as your location, climate, budget, and environmental concerns. It’s also important to properly size the system to match the size and needs of your pool heating.
Heated Swimming Pool Options
- Gas Heaters: These heaters are capable of rapidly heating pool water, making them suitable for colder months, but they may incur higher operational costs. A high-efficiency gas heater is optimal for luxury settings.
- Heat Pumps: More energy-efficient than gas heaters, heat pumps extract heat from the air and transfer it to the pool water, making them an excellent choice for high-end designs.
- Electric Resistance Heaters: While smaller and simpler, electric heaters tend to be less efficient and more energy-intensive for larger pools.
- Heat Exchangers: Heat exchangers use your home’s existing heating system (e.g., a boiler) to heat the pool.
- Cover and Insulation: Properly insulating your indoor pool area and using a pool cover can help retain heat and reduce heating costs.
For commercial projects, the typical scope for heating would require the M&E team to bring LTHW supplies to the plant room and to connect them to the relevant unit so that the unit itself can work as the demarcation point. Aqua Platinum will specify, supply and install the unit and its secondary connections. We will also advise the requirements of the primary system based on the informed parameters.
Aqua Platinum will advise a control system for the heating by way of a simple 3-port diverter valve, temperature set points and a constant primary flow. Ultimately, however, it will be up to the M&E team to supply and install this valve for AP to control, or to provide an alternative solution for consideration.
Air Handling Units
An indoor luxury swimming pool heating system may need the use of an air handler, or air handling unit (AHU). Although an AHU doesn’t directly heat the pool water, it is extremely important for maintaining the overall atmosphere of an indoor pool because it controls temperature, humidity, and air quality.
An AHU must be included in the entire HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system when planning an indoor heated swimming pool. In order to secure sufficient function and a comfortable indoor pool environment, proper sizing and system design are essential. It is strongly advised to consult with HVAC and pool heating experts who have experience designing indoor pools if you want the best outcomes.
